What should I wear for my backyard wedding?

I’m having a small backyard wedding and a BBQ reception with only close friends and family. As tacky as this sounds I really like the All I Ever Wanted music video by Chuck Wicks and we are decorating the trees behind my house with lanterns and lights to resemble the video. I’m not sure on how formal my dress should be or how casual…and I need to figure this out before I can dress my fiance and the wedding party. I know this is up to me as the bride but I wanted some feedback and ideas.. Thanks!!

What was the wardrobe in the video? I would wear something comfortable because you are at home but not too comfortable. Your dress should be between formal and casual, like a nice party dress, not the traditional wedding dress. What about a Hawaiian type wardrobe?

I suggest a nice, simple dress. It would be strange for you to wear a traditional wedding gown and to have the men in tuxedos for a backyard wedding and BBQ.

If i were you i woud were a cocktail dress, its not to forma, yet dressy enough for your guests to spot you out of the crowd.

I was think ing something like this dress

but white, and the deading on the top coud be the color you choose for the bridsmaids? idk it might still be to dressy.

My wedding was a back yard wedding. I dressed in a white linen spaghetti strap dress with a lacey short sleeve jacket over it. My sister wore a yellow pastel sun dress and my friend wore one like it only in a green pastel. My husband wore white cotton slacks with a white short sleeve shirt and the guys wore white cotton slacks with the same pastels as the girls. The flowers of course matched up the pastels with others. It was really nice but still casual. Then after my wedding, we all changed and hit the pool. Had a great time and a great BBQ.
    Have fun

its really your choice. wear a formal wedding gown or something dressy and nice but comfortable for a backyard affair. This time of year stores are getting in alot of nice dresses. I don’t know who chuck Wicks is but the decor and whole theme sounds nice. theres nothing tacky about a back yard wedding. it sounds like fun.
you could also get a more formal dress for the ceremony and then go inside and change into a party dress while the reception is being set up. Keep the clothes weather appropriate too

this is exactly how my wedding is.

I went to a second hand shop and found a tea length strapless dress that is white with little pink flowers on it. 12 dollars. It is white, nice and yet casual also.

i have worn it many times and will even after my wedding

It sounds nice but do have a backup plan in case of bad weather. It can happen.

This is really a stunning dress. I didn’t think it would be but it even looked great on me when I tried it on and I’m only 5 ft tall. I didn’t use it for my wedding (Just married 10/25/08) bc I always imagined myself in something different than this but I always thought it would be wonderful for a backyard or beachside wedding.

I got married in my backyard too. I had a fairly simple dress (David’s Bridal) & my hubby did wear a tux. You should wear what you want, I just wouldn’t have a huge train, maybe just a small sweep train.

    Here is a picture.

Wear a shorter wedding dress-something sweet that is more tea-length. There are some really fabulous dresses out there that are shorter. Then, have your guy wear a nice collared shirt (probably white) with khaki pants, and have your girls wear tea-length sundresses and have his groomsmen wear collared shirts that are in that same color as the girls with khaki pants as well, and it will be really charming!

That would be so pretty with lanterns. You could make it as dressy as ur willing to dress up the backyard. U could hang fabric over an archway, also lots of candles, and assemble a dance floor!! Wear whatever your heart desires. Maybe not a huge poofy princess dress but something A-lined will def compliment u and not have a huge train. It sounds like it will be wonderful! Good luck!

    I LOVE this video!
Since this is a backyard/casual wedding. I would suggest that you wear something flowy, and informal like this.

    Bridesmaids:

    Good luck and congrats. :)
