However, I couldn’t afford that (that was more than half of my wedding budget!) so I emailed a few and asked them if they’d work out something cheaper for me. Our total photography is going to cost about $600 which is still a lot of money but is significantly less than $1500, so you might try asking some of the photographers you like to work something out with you
Everywhere I looked it was over $2000. I would say “average” is around $2500. All the bells and whistles is probably somewhere closer to $3500 and up.
Luckily for me I have a friend who is a professional photographer and he is only charging me $1k for everything!
Start asking your friends who they know…you never know what you might find – from a friend who will do it for you to a referral that may give you a discount…doesn’t hurt.
We paid $3000 for a local photographer in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (she is American though). That included the wedding day and the rehearsal dinner as well as ALL the photos on DVD so we could do with as we pleased. They turned out fantastic.
This is one area I would definitely splurge on because once the big day is over, the pics are all you really have. Find a photographer who you LOVE and it will work out.
The website below will break down the average cost of EVERYTHING for a wedding and it will take it’s averages from your zip code! Every area of the country is different! Nobody on here can give you a good approximation of what it will cost you unless they live near you! Check out the website below. Put in your zip code and then click on the different aspects of the wedding. It will accurately give you all the information you need!
My fiance and I negotiated $2000 with our photographer to do both the wedding and engagement shoot, so we’re far below the average for our area!
Try calling a local college that offers photography school they may be able to get your in touch with a student that is advanced in there classes enough to take professional pictures. Im getting married in august and one of our good friends knew a girl that was taking classes and gave me her number. I called her and seen some of her pictures and she is awesome. She is going to do our engagement pictures and be at the wedding from before the ceremony when we are getting dressed through the dance(were just going to plan her in for a meal) for $250. Other than that the cheapest we found was $800 and that was before the ceremony through the cake cutting.
You can end up being charged $3000+ but you can also find photographers for less. Look at craigslist.org for ones in your local area plus as someone already suggested contact your local art college.
Whoever you end up choosing make sure you are happy with their style and with them – you don’t want a really annoying photographer hanging around all day!
You can also reduce your costs by limiting the amount of time they are there and also by not taking their albums – these are so expensive! Ask for all of the digital photos on a cd and then you can put your own albums together – plus no extra cost for reprints!

This question needs location, time at the wedding, what your expectations etc……. Most couples spend between 1500 to 5500 for a good to great wedding photographer.
Uncle Larry, Ant Susie and my cousin, this photographer uses Jpegs from the camera. Never pay them more than $50 an hour because its to much work for them and shows a lack of passion for quality photography. Uncle Larry & Ant Susie don’t process the images by hand. They depend on the camera to do that automatically. Jpegs are compressed which will make it difficult to adjust or edit to a finished Photograph for print and etc….
The photographer that uses RAW from the camera. They process every exposer by hand this takes 5 to ten minutes per image 400 images = 46 hours of processing and Imagery craftsmanship on top of the time at the wedding. How much do you make in 55 hours and add the pro equipment, pro training and pro experience. Kind and Patient that should be the distinguishing quality or characteristic of their personality.
Being able to create priceless images consistently is true talent. Pick three photographs and meet with them all before making a choice. Ask the Photographer to do a couple of test shots with you. After 12 years of Photographing Weddings I meet with every potential client so I know I am the right fit for the wedding that is being planed.
I could write for days about this question. this question will make it difficult to find your wedding photographer.
It really depends on what your looking for and where you live. I am a wedding minister and I mostly cater to small weddings on a budget. I have a photographer that I package into my services for as little as $99.00 if all you need is a CD-ROM with the Images. The Images are edited for quality. You can then go to anyplace like Wal-Mart and print only the ones you want for pretty cheap. More and more photographers are offering this option, though most charge more for it. There is another photographer that I can hire for $125, though she charges $250 if you (a non wedding professional) book her directly.
Today, in the world of digital cameras, anyone that has a 10+ Mega-pixel camera, and knows how to use Photo-shop, can do a professional job. Case in point, one “professional” I met at a wedding I was performing told me he got started by buying a camera with a “big lens” to “look legit” and ordered a lesson on Photo-shop from that Video Professor guy on TV. We exchanged business cards, and I visited his web site. He has packages between $1000 and $6000. The real irony of this is that from the look of his gallery, this guys does superb work.
The moral of this story is, pointing a camera isn’t rocket science, don’t get ripped off.
We paid $3,000.00 for ours. But that included three albums.
I haven’t found anything under $1500.
