What, in 2010, is appropriate for a second wedding?

I’m a very formal person and a stickler for detail and correctness, but I’m 53 years old and I haven’t been married since I was 23. What would be appropriate to wear? An expensive cream suit? Bouquet or corsage? Stylish hat? My mother had a pink veil and gloves for her second wedding to my Dad. I want a very sophisticated look, even if it’s floor length. I’ll spend a bunch on announcements and photographs and cake and champagne. No more, Maybe hors d’oeurves.

Honey, in 2010 ANYTHING goes. It’s a miracle that people actually get married anymore. I’d probably go with a bouquet of some sort (simple) instead of a corsage. You might want to add music to the reception. Maybe a cello and a violin for some nice background music. Otherwise it sounds lovely.
Really the only thing that is frowned upon now is wearing a blusher. Otherwise 2nd brides are going all out and there’s not etiquette rules being broken.
If you want to wear a suit then go for it but if you want to wear a wedding dress you can do that too. You can do whatever you’re most comfortable with.
Good luck and have fun!
My mother in law was just re-married and she is also older. She wore a lovely light gold skirt suit and carried a bouquet. No veil, no bridesmaids, just the family. It seemed really appropriate.
For me it depends on what you look like to be honest. Are you plus size or petite? Look 63 or 43? For me those things matter. Anything goes these days. Many older brides are choosing a gown, no train, in a champagne color. I would look at mother of the bride dresses for style inspirations and then just order whatever you find in the color you want.
Go for it!
I would wear a refined suit, you can have either a corsage or a bouquet (it doesn’t matter). Hat…sure! I would love to see you on a tiny hat with Russian netting attached. I think a veil would be too much. Gloves, sure if it’s fall or winter.
something like this:

Have professional pictures done (investment that you will never regret), have announcements, champagne and hors d’oeuvres. Cake and champagne sounds lovely.
Good luck and congrats
I vote for the expensive and sophisticated cream suit, a small bouquet, and the stylish hat!!! (I like hats.) I also vote for the best photographer available, a delicious cake, and some good champagne! Sounds great to me! Best wishes to you and your groom, and have a lovely wedding.
I’d say that the only thing to keep in mind is that you’re a classy, mature woman getting married, not some silly young girl who wants to be a princess for a day. I’m certain you can do classy and mature. Keep that in mind and whatever you choose will be incredible. =)
