Wedding invitations, is it ok to hand write the addresses?

My wedding is in 4 weeks and I still haven’t gotten the invitations out. We had problems with the printing and had to send them back and now the wedding is in about 4 weeks, and I just got the final prints on Friday. I wanted to have a calligrapher write out the addresses but now I think I should just hand write them so that they get out in time. I should add everyone has gotten a save the date card already but I really think I should get these invites out, but I am worried that it will look tacky if they are hand written what do you think??

i think handwritten is best at this point. it might take a few days to get them printed off somewhere. you might run of time otherwise. people make plans fast so getting them out is top priority.

have someone in your family with the best handwriting do them.

No, my cousin and his fiance hired a calligrapher to write out their invitations, and it looked really pretty. I thought it was more thoughtful and it looked nicer than just printed letters. You could tell it took time and it was more original than most.

In this age of “hi-tech” I think hand written invitations are very nice and personal!

Bless you, of course you can hand write them! In fact, Miss Manners will probably weep for joy on seeing your envelope!

It’s absolutely correct to handwrite the addresses on wedding invitations, and if nobody thought it was tacky when I (with my lousy handwriting) did it, then I’m sure yours will be fine. Just take your time, write as legibly as you can, and – if possible – get a friend with good handwriting to help you.

From what I hear you are supposed to hand write the invitations anyway. That is the old fashioned way I guess. I cheated and did mine computer address labels ( I have really bad handwriting). I used a fancy font and they looked wonderful.
I hope you get them out soon. My wedding is about that far away also. CONGRATS!!

Write them as neatly as you can. Better to have them out in plenty of time, than done by a calligrapher. Do NOT print up labels!

You can write them yourself or you can print them out. I’d opt for the handwriting if you can round up a few people to help you get them out quickly.

if you can take them tomorrow, monday, to the calligrapher, and get them back the same day you can send them out tues. if the calligrapher is something that is not set up and you are unsure of how long the calligrapher will take, get them out right now and handwrite the addresses yourself. and now i would like to give you some more extremely important guidelines for invitations.
first, take the completely filled invitation envelope and one loose response envelope and go in person to the post office. let them weigh the entire invitation and then buy enough stamps at the correct postage. most wedding invitations do not take regular stamps, they are too heavy. then, do the same with the response envelope, you are going to put the stamp on the envelope, right? i can’t tell you how often over the years i have known people who are horrified to find out their invitations were not mailed because of the wrong postage on the envelopes.
second, after the invitation envelopes are addressed and stamped and correctly filled, seal them up and wait a bit and make sure ! the envelope stays shut! you would be shocked at how many times it does not.
third, when you have a filled, stamped, shut invite, take these precious invites again, in person, to the post office and give them yourself to the person behind the counter, or, put them in the box in the post office building. then you have done all you can do to make sure they arrive in a timely fashion in correct condition with correct postage. do all this yourself, stay in control of each step and you will insure the success of your invites getting to their destination. try to get all this done by this time tomorrow.

I think handwriting them is more personable!

Its O.K., the important thing is that you get the invitations out. You are the bride, right, just maker sure that they are legible. You want all of your guest to share that special day, and you have enough problems already, invites shouldn’t be one of them.

I had my mother and grandmother who have BEAUTIFUL handwriting do it (mine is disgusting) because we did our wedding on a budget and didn’t want the extra expense of a calligrapher. A lot of people said they loved that we wrote them because they were more personal, plus they recognized the handwriting so knew immediatly who it was from

If you handwritting is decent do it yourself it’s more a personal feel anyways. Most people don’t look at the front of the envelopes that much anyways. BUT you are right, get them out no later than mid week because you need to get them back and give the number to the cater so start writing tonight.

    hi there

of course you can hand write your invitations. not sure what colour you are going for, but you can use a white envelope and a gold pen (just a example). if you have tried to write them out and you are getting fustrated, you can try the suggestion earlier and type the addresses out and print them out at home using labels. saves time paying some a(*&^le to do it for you

The outside envelope address should be written in calligraphy OR handwritten. I wrote out mine, and liked doing this because I didn´t have to bother anyone to do the calligraphy (my sister does calligraphy but has 4 young children, or pay to have someone do it.

Get those invites out NOW-even if people got save the date cards. It´s just appropriate to send them 4 weeks out.

Of course it’s fine, it’s preferred! I handwrote all of ours – over 200!
