How many of you had just hors’deurves at your reception and how long did your reception last?

I want to have an hors’deurves reception. Don’t worry, I’m going to make sure that’s clear to everyone who’s invited and I’m planning on starting the wedding at around 2pm. I don’t want a reception longer than 3 hours. Is that too short or too long?

My friend did something very similar for her wedding a couple of years ago. She had a fairly short ceremony and reception (with just hors’deurves) in the afternoon and afterwards, close family and friends went over to her parents house where we grilled out, drank hunch punch, and had a good ole time. I want to do the same type thing for my wedding. Do you think she would be mad if I copied her? I’m not copying her flowers, colors, cake, dress, decorations, or any thing like that, just the way she had the short ceremony, reception, and “after party.” I know I could just ask her but I just want to know from you ladies first if you think that it would be tacky of me to even ask her.
Yeah, I was thinking maybe a 2 hour reception, 3 hours being the max.

I was really liking the whole concept because we might have the wedding on a Sunday (because a lot of my fiance’s friends work on Saturday) and that way, people could come to the wedding and reception and not have to worry about being out late on Sunday night. Anyone invited to the wedding would be welcome to come to the after party. I just figured that whoever wants to party longer than the reception, can come on over and party some more in a more relaxed environment.
No alcohol at the reception either.

OUTDOOR – wedding/reception/cocktail & everything at one site, do many places offer all this @ beach L8 Nite?

I want to do this in Santa Barbara and I want it to be out all outdoors. I am just wondering how late they let everyone stay out on the property, if its usually till 2AM? 4AM? 11PM??? I have no clue how all of this works, and im sure it just depends on the venue….just wondering

I am a bridesmaid, attending the wedding & bridal showers and bachelorette party. How many gifts do I get?!?

I’m not trying to be cheap I am just not familiar with the etiquette. Do wedding shower gifts generally differ from bridal shower gifts (in other words, is the bridal shower gift FOR the bride or both the bride and the groom?) and do I bring a gift to the bachelorette party or does the bridal shower cover that part? Which one do I spend most money for?… I’m confused! Help!
There’s going to be two separate showers before the wedding: bridal shower that MOH is organizing, and another one at work that I’m organizing…

The guest list for my wedding keeps growing and growing, my fiance’ and I are footing the bill. Everytime I turn around, 20 more people pop up who think they should be invited, because of one reason or other. I can pack them into the church, but we can’t pay for everyone to come to the reception. How do I tell people this is an invitation only wedding and reception, not a word of mouth free for all?

How many of you planned your own bachelorette party?

My bridesmaids brought up going to Vegas the weekend before the wedding, and we went. It was a lot of fun, but really disorganized. My MOH didn’t step up to organize it because it was actually my college roommates that suggested it (4 of them were bridesmaids). It was a really fun weekend, but there was nothing distinctly “bachelorette” about it.

Should I have stepped up to organize it? I read a lot on here about brides organizing their own party. Is that common?
Oh no, I was not disappointed…it was great. I am just wondering if I was supposed to do something for it.

How to see how many people can attend a wedding before booking?

I have been looking at a lot of different venues to hold a wedding. There are some that hold 50, and others that hold 100+, and they are all pretty much in different cities from eachother.

For example:
If I had a choice between a venue in Spokane Washington that can hold 100-200 guests and
A venue in Portland Oregon that can only hold 50 guests.

Because I wouldn’t want to book the one in Spokane that may be a little more expensive when no one will come…..
or book the one in Portland and have too many people come.
I didn’t know if there was a way to find out who can actually come to each one before I book a place and let everyone know where the wedding will actually be held at….like maybe in a wedding announcement before I send out the actual invitation? How would I word it? Has anyone else ran into this problem and found a solution?
