Wedding photos first time?

Please help – I was asked to photograph my soon to be sister-in-laws wedding in Oct 2011. I have a good camera but…. need to learn a lot by then. I’m sure I’m not the best choice but by far the cheapest since I’ll be doing it for free. So… which lens should I use, where do I find good ideas for poses, what are the must have shots, and every other question. Is there a blog, a link to wedding photographers, a book I should look it to? I think the wedding will be outside but I’m not sure about time of day yet, but what other questions should I be asking. Where do I start – besides learning how to use my new camera? Thanks for all good advice!

First paid photography gig–how to pull it off like a pro?

My best friend recently asked me to shoot her engagement photos, because she “wouldn’t want it done by anyone else” (d’aww…). I’m an enthusiast photographer, but I wouldn’t really consider myself quite ready to go pro. Nonetheless, I do think this is something I can probably pull off, and if everything turns out badly, she’s a good enough friend that I can just say, “Sorry, you know I’m still pretty inexperienced”…as long as we figure that out while there’s still time to call someone else for the job.

Since she’s paying for my services, I want to come off as professional as possible. A few questions for those more experienced than I am:
1. She wants photo cards or postcards as wedding invitations/save-the-date reminders. Where do I go about getting these printed? We live in a small town and I usually get prints through Snapfish.com and Walgreen’s, because we don’t have a proper photo place in town anymore. Is there a better option? Is it worth sending away someplace for the cards to get a nicer quality?
2. To watermark, or not to watermark? Part of the reason I’m eager to do this job is for the chance to get publicity as a photographer, even though I haven’t officially launched a business yet. Is a watermark on the front of the photo appropriate here, or should I save it for a small note on the back of or inside the card?
3. Should my “package” include digitals, prints, or both. I plan on actually shooting most of the photos digitally (though I might do a roll of film if the mood strikes). Do I sell the couple the “digital negatives” and let them do whatever they want in terms of getting them on cards, or consider the legwork of figuring out the best way to get them printed part of my fee and get them cards myself. Or do I offer both at different price ranges? And with what kind of price difference?

I’d love any general tips on providing the customer a satisfying and professional experience. I’m very excited about my first paid gig, but a little nervous about pulling it off!

Awesome First Dance For Bride & Groom at Wedding Reception

I don’t even know how anyone can claim they had a better first dance at their wedding than this couple. Man, they must have spent hours and hours on this routine. They both kick ass. I wish I could have been in the wedding party to see everyone’s reaction at the reception. It sure must have been a sight to see.

which goes first the engagement ring or wedding band? what is the proper way to wear a wedding set?

if you’re already wearing the engagement ring doesn’t it make since tht th wedding band go on in front o it? are you supposed to take off the engatgement ring put on the band – then put the engagement ring back on? HELP PLEASE!! WEDDING IN THREE WEEKS!

Is this cute for first wedding anniversary?

My husband and I want to try to do the traditional anniversary gifts. The first anniversary is paper, and since my husband has no need for stationary or anything like that, I was having a lot of trouble coming up with something paper to give him. We saw this awesome 3D paper art at a museum, and he was really impressed with it. I have no idea how they did the things featured at the museum, but I tried to do something similar. I bought a shadowbox frame, and a bunch of really bright paper scrap booking stuff, and made a 3D collage out of it and put it in the frame. I used a lot of dimensional dots to make it 3D, managed to work our names/wedding date into it, and used quilled paper spirals to fill blank spots. It took me hours to put together. I think it looks pretty cool, but I’m always nervous giving homemade gifts. Do you think this is a cute idea? Would you like this as an anniversary gift from your wife if you were trying to do the traditional thing?
I would post a picture, but I don’t really know how…..
