What fabric to use as a lining for a taffeta wedding dress?

I am in the thinking and buying supply stage of making my wedding dress. It will be a separate top and bottom using McCall’s 3436 pattern. I will use the white dress on the right with a few minor modiciations.

I want to make it with lace overlay and I think I have settled on using taffeta for the body of the dress. But what do I use for the lining? Satin seems silly and very hot? I need to have a lining becasue the taffeta seems to be too transluscent to go without.

I also need to have a few pieces of boning in the bodice. I have been sewing for many many years but I am usualy making simple items and hardly any have been lined. I have never had call to make a wedding dress.
The pattern is no help. I am going to use Taffeta for the body….which specific kind of fabric works best as a lining for taffeta?
OK, drip that makes sense. I am going to sew it like I do a costume, but I have never used taffeta or any other special occasion fabric. Thanks!!

Honestly, I have trashed a dress before, as a bridesmaid at a wedding reception. We all, including the bride, jumped in a swimming pool. It was a fun time, thanks to the open bar!! Now, how many of us would allow a dress that has meant so much to us, bridesmaids this might not apply!!:), sell our dress to someone who would trash it for art??

project help: making a wedding dress and need help on what to do!! HELP?

I’m making a wedding dress for a year 12 project and i need glue that dry clear and doesn’t stain or change the colour of the material. i am using silk and need to glue small beads on the material.( I can’t sew it on as it’s in large amounts) ive seen this glue on project run way but not sure where i can get it from or something like that. can anyone please help?? or any ideas on how i can fix it.

Wedding Dress match Bridesmaids?

The wedding theme is 1950′s glamour (I absolutely adore starlets such as Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly etc). So much so that what I have planned so far to make it authentic is the following:
Red carpet when we arrive
Old style flashing lightbulbs for the guests/bride and groom walking down the red carpet
Champagne /Martini cocktails on arrival
Table places set with pictures of my favourite starlets all with a quote about love or marriage
Invitations as old movie theatre tickets

My theme is predominantly black/white and red. The cake I like is as below (imagine with red flashes toward the ”black lace” piping and with red roses on the cake) oh and it will be 4 tiered also.

Do you think this will all match and tie in well? If you have any other ideas for bridesmaid dresses please send links, but in my colour guidelines BLACK, WHITE AND RED please. I really want tea length girly shape preferably with netting under.

The flashing bulbs are only for the red carpet and the lights in the hotel will be dimmed and the photographs black and white. I have seen proofs and they are excellent, very arty. Normal, digital cameras and video will be used for the rest of the day
Thanks girls you are being very helpful – but please don’t concentrate too hard on the ”Hepburn” thing… I don’t want to replicate her exactly (if anything, I much preferred Marilyn’s look) I just want a Hollywood style 40′s/50′s bridesmaid dress which is classy and will match that dress. Any ideas for table decorations? So far I’m thinking white and red roses and black ostrich feathers….
Have already picked the photographer /seen the proofs and had test shots taken- just asking about the dresses and other bits thanks guys….

ive been looking for a wedding dress for a while now and i cant find one that just awes me …..and i was watching the wonder years last night and i saw when his sister gets married… that’s the dress…i want it and i cant find anything like it….and anything close is like 3 grand…and that’s beyond ridiculous….can you guys help? my limit is like 700..and that’s pushing it….

I forgot to mention…….the wedding is formal and starts at 5:00pm…..from all the research I’ve done, I could wear some black to a formal evening wedding. I plan to wear simple little diamonds for earrings and my hair down.
I don’t have an appropriate jacket but I plan to wear a matching cream shawl around my shoulders.
LATEST UPDATE: The Bride and Groom just changed the dress code on their wedding website from “Formal” to “Formal:Black Tie and Evening Dress”.
