What would you say the normal price for a very low budget wedding is?

So I plan on getting married on August 11, 2012 to my fiance and we just started looking at venues and so far everything that we have seen is out of our price range. So far the cheapest we found for plating is $39 a plate and everything has alcohol added into their prices but we don’t want any type of alcohol to be served because my family is full of alcoholics and we as a couple don’t believe in drinking. I was just wondering if now a days if there is anything for less than $39 dollars a plate and how much quotes could go down if we don’t have “drinks”. Also any suggestions on low budget places in the Detroit-metro area? Thanks

Our moms have been bffs since college and we have been best friends my hole life, …. I would be heart broken if I wouldn’t be in the wedding party and just photographing it”/ I know they are tight on money right now and I would love to help out. However I’m not a wedding photographer… I’ve second shot and shadowed other wedding photographers, but I don’t think I’m up for such a big task… and I want to be IN the wedding. How do I politely tell her this?? She loves my pictures and maybe she is trying to flatter me by asking. I don’t know. My feelings are a little hurt though that she is asking me to photograph her wedding instead of be a bridesmaid… I would of course take my own pics but I wouldn’t want to be the main photographer and I really can’t recommend any photographers that aren’t at least $3,500+ starting. Advice? Thanks!

Best way to plan a budget wedding?

I am looking to get married next year and i do not have a big budget maybe at the most 2,000 bucks. i am starting to buy things here and there when i see them on sale, and haveing family members take the pics and i have a family member who is a dj so i get that dicounted too, but is there more i can do to save me money?
I am using fake flowers, we have dollar stores here where i can get 5-7 flowers for a dollar same withe the ring bearer pillow that was a dollar, and since i am crafty i am going to add my own things to the pillow, we plan on having a buffet style dinner where his and my parents and grandparents make the food but we pay for most of that, i plan on gettin my dresses at deb where they are cheap and i can put them on lay away!

Open bar on a teeny budget?

So, my wedding budget is only $3000.00. We just bought a house and have no extra money. I really want to offer my guests something besides food, without going crazy on the open bar. We thought we could either do one or two his and hers cocktails, or just have well liquors and a beer selection, and a fully stocked bar if people want to buy anything. I hate that we can’t just offer free drinks, but we simply can’t afford it. Have you been to weddings where the drinks aren’t all free? Is it tacky to only offer a couple options for free drinks? I’ve obviously never planned a wedding before, and have only been to one wedding as it is, so just looking for some advice here. Any thoughts would be appreciated!
And please don’t berate me for being poor. I work my booty off.

I really need help! I need to plan a super cheap $1000 budget wedding/reception in Westchester County, NY or surrounding areas? I’m planning it for my very sick best friend(more like sister), who’s very sick and battling Lupus with a 1 year old at home. It will be a max. of 30 ppl, no kids. I have a volunteer to photograph(my hubby does it as his hobby ,I’m doing the decor and table setting myself to save and I’m also paying for her gown & a friend is doing the music. We also have a family member who make professional cakes willing to give us a great deal on that as well, and we are having a yard sale to hopefully make some of the money to pay for the actual wedding bands. I just want it to be as special and elegant as it can be for her. She deserves it! Any help, ideas would be so appreciated! Cheap venues, food/bev., anything at all? thanks so much guys!
Thanks so much guys. We weren’t planning to have any alcohol at all, only because she doesn’t drink anyway, so I was thinking of a cash bar. My main concern where am I gonna get food/bevs. , a place and decor for $1000?

Destination wedding on a limited budget?

We’re planning a wedding in Florida but have a very limited budget. Any suggestions on the best ways to cut reception costs?? We only plan on having between 25 and 50 guests but don’t know where to begin. Do we do it all ourself from afar and just pray it works out? OR, do we hire a coordinator to get us the cheapest but still quality stuff and find a site, etc?
Well, it’s not really “dirt cheap” but around $7,500, for everything, not just the reception. That includes attire, etc. Thanks for all the help

Champage taste on a beer budget wedding… any advice??

Alright so I have an extremely low budget for my June 2009 wedding. I found my dress for $179 at davids bridal online, and I am very crafty so I am doing mostly a diy thing. I want everything to look classy but I am having a hard time finding things with my budget. The good news is that I am having at most 50 guests… and my parents and future in laws are making all of the food, my dad is making the cakes, and my mom is doing my flowers. has anyone ever looked into hiring a string quartet of like seniors in high school? I read on many websites that that is a cheap way to go when you can’t shell out the big bucks… the ceremony is going to be outside at a park and the reception is inside the community center room. I appreciate any advice you can give… Thanks

Original Budget vs. Real Budget?

Ladies,

I was wonedrin about wedding budgets and how are you doing keeping your expenses on track.

We originally set a 10k budget, but now we are running on 30k. The reception and ceremony are about 12k, but everything else has added up to 30k. My in-laws are paying for all of the lavish details not originaly in the budget. S fay I’ve put 1ok, my fiance 12k and My in-laws about 8k.

We are not using any credit at all and paying everything up-front and we can afford it, but still, that’s a big chunk of cash.

So my question is:

What did you originally budgeted and how much did you ended up spending?
Do you keep up with your receipts?

To answer your question, by “everything else” y mean, dress, shoes, hair and make up, nails, accesories, wedding party gifts, flowers, parents’ gifts, DJ, photography, cake, minister, transportation and lodging, out of town baskets, hospitality baskets, decorations, tips, harpist, rehearsal dinner, invitations, menu cards, postage, sable etc. etc etc.
I must add that this includes honeymoon, rings and rehearsal dinner.

The reception and all the trimmmings are about 20k. I guess we are still “on budget” we have planned for 12k, and my in-laws contributted 8k for photography, DJ, Limo and rehearsal dinner and menu cards, things that we were going to do without otherwise.

You guys are doing great keeping up with your receipts, I started very organized too but with 58 days ’till the wedding date, I have no time for binders and color tabs LOL! Thanks for sharing your experiences.
