How much did you pay your wedding photographer and what was included in the wedding package?

I am a photographer by trade and am just a little curious. I am interested in knowing what people have paid for their wedding package and what was included.
Where you happy with the photographer and the results?
If not, in hindsight, would you have paid more to get a higher quality photographer?

I asked around to find a friend of a friend who takes pics on the side and I paid 550. He made me a disk with about 150 photos that I can take to walgreens and duplicate if I want. As well as a photo album with one of each photo that he took. Very Nice. Ask around. I guarantee someone you know has a connection.
We paid about $1500 for our photographer. I’m just glad we had an excellent videographer because we were very disappointed in our photographer and the pictures he took. We were so disappointed that we never did get an album from him. He was supposed to reimburse us but never did. In hindsight, I would have gotten a different photographer. If we would have had to paid more, I would have. Be careful because all you have at the end of the day are your pictures and your memories.
In Missouri, I paid 600 (I think…could have been 700) for my Engagement photos, and my wedding photos (he was at the church from 2 in the afternoon until around 10:00 at night, he left after cutting cake, all the important dances, and the garter and bouquet toss). I was SO happy with the results, we get to keep every proof, and he gave us around 400 proofs, all of which are great! I would have gladly paid around 2,000 for the same photographer if he raised his prices. I’ve had friends who’ve paid thousands of dollars and been deeply disappointed with their photos, I think I lucked out. =)
We are in Ohio & are paying $2,800. This includes 8hrs of coverage w/two photographers, a wedding album for us as well as a duplicate album for each of our parents. We also will receive all images on a USB drive & rights to reproduce the images.
We could have done it for less, but this is the one area where we didn’t want to cut corners.
EDIT: We haven’t had the wedding yet, so can’t tell you about the results. What I can say is the reason we chose this photographer is she sold herself to us really well. She told us about her background, experience & why she does weddings. She also explained her method & how she does her work. She explained why she is different from other photographers & gave us a ton of sample weddings to look through. Basically, we really like her as a person & an artist. Hopefully we will like our pics just as well
We used a fairly new photographer, so he gave us a better rate than the established photographers in the area. We paid $1200 for 8 hours of time on the wedding day. Also included was an album and disks of our pictures.
I was thrilled with our photographer.
Our photographer’s cost was $12,700 for the
Deluxe Starter package which included
A memory book of 200 various shots from engagement to honeymoon. The book was exquisite…11×14 size….the layout was awesome…different shots, sizes, wallet size, 5×7, 8×10, full page of 11×14 size photos….it all had a story…the print was a beautiful font, the back ground to many of the smaller shots was a big picture of us at the wedding somewhere.
2 smaller copies of the memory books for the mothers. This were in a 5×7 size.
A 3 part session of engagement photos….
free style….casual…and formal shooting included 1-11×14 with frame, 1-8×10, 3-5×7 and we also got 50 wallets size were free as these were a gift from the photographer as an engagement gift, he does this with everyone.
Studio photos of the bride prior to wedding…included 3 8×10 and 3 5×7
On wedding day…Studio shots of the bride & groom and parents only. included 3-8×10 and 3-5×7
Candid shots on wedding day starting from the home of the bride and another photographer was sent to the groom’s home also, ceremony, group photos with wedding party at the chapel, reception and dance. He made professional copies and edited our honeymoon pictures and included them in our memory books. After we returned from our honeymoon we went and took photos to a near by white sands location, we took photos downtown at a park and museum and we took photos on our collectible motorcycles and cars, these were just casual candid photos to end our story. From all these photos and they were endless….our package included
500 5×7 candid shots of our choice.
We also recieved a portfolio with a copy of ALL the photo shots taken before, during and after the wedding. The portfolio included all shots in the size of 4×6 photos. There must have been close to 3000 shots….I got tired of counting them! It was a beautiful touch and it had our monogram on the front and our wedding date and a slogan we used in our wedding theme. It was beautiful.
We also will have another photo session of casual and formal shots done during our first wedding anniversay and this includes 1- 11×14 and 3-4×6
Our package also include 2-19×22 in canvas oil paintings and framed in a very elegant and elaborate wood frame.
2-CD’s with a copy of all the photo digital shots
The work was exquisite and yes, in a jiffy I will always pay more for quality…you get what you pay for! In addition we ordered close to $3,000 more in photos for family and friends. The work was just remarkable!
Value your work and your customers! Your exquisite work is your best sales marketer…remember you need to tend to the customer needs on such a special occasion. My photographer and assistant were the ones who kept my sanity! They were awesome and angels as they kept me calm and collected and assured me that our memories were in good hands! Good Luck and don’t underestimate your potential and role in such important and special days as weddings! Again….Good Luck!
