how to politely refuse a baby shower?

My mother and sister have announced their intentions to throw us a baby shower, but my husband and I would really rather they not. We’d rather get our own baby items after reviewing Consumer Reports to make sure things are safe (and my friends and family are infamous for refusing to stick to a gift registry – they just pick whatever they think is cute). Also, large parties kind of make me nervous, and after what happened at my wedding (grandma complained the whole time about every single little detail, after enormous expense and meticulous planning, making me regret ever bothering) I am gun shy about doing it all over again. I don’t want to be involved in the planning, and I also don’t want to receive a bunch of things we won’t use and don’t want, or put on some sort of socially acceptable “happy face” the entire time, acting like some sort of idealized mom-to-be, oohing and aahing over every single little thing, which is not the way I am at all.

Should we accept just to allow others into our social lives, even at no real benefit to us? We realize this is expected but honestly, large social events make me nervous and I never have any fun. I also don’t want mom to go to any trouble or expense, but she says, “you have no choice about how I spend my money.” Which is true I guess. I’d rather they just come in small groups, I’d cook them dinner and serve them home-baked cake if they did, but the whole thing with the games and the punch and the tea sandwiches? It’s too much!

is this how married people should act ? poll blue or silver?

Marriage (Part I)

Typical macho man married typical good-looking lady, and
after the wedding, he laid down the following rules:

‘I’ll be home when I want, if I want and at what time
I want — and I don’t expect any hassle from you.
I expect a great dinner to be on the table unless
I tell you that I won’t be home for dinner.
I’ll go hunting, fishing, boozing, and card-playing
when I want with my old buddies, and don’t you
give me a hard time about it.
Those are my rules. Any comments?’

His new bride said:
‘No, that’s fine with me. Just understand that there will be sex
here at seven o’clock every night…whether you’re here or not.’

(DARN SHE’S GOOD!)

Marriage (Part II)

Husband and wife had a bitter quarrel on the day of their 40th wedding anniversary!

The husband yells, ‘When you die, I’m getting you a headstone
that reads, ‘Here Lies My Wife — Cold As Ever’!’

‘Yeah?’ she replies. ‘When you die, I’m getting you a headstone
that reads, ‘Here Lies My Husband — Stiff At Last’!’

(HE ASKED FOR IT!)

Marriage (Part III)

Husband (a doctor) and his wife are having a fight at the breakfast table.

Husband gets up in a rage and says, ‘And you are no
good in bed either,’ and storms out of the house.

After some time he realizes he was nasty and
decides to make amends and rings her up.

She comes to the phone after many rings, and the irritated husband says,
‘What took you so long to answer to the phone?’

She says, ‘I was in bed.’

‘In bed this early, doing what?’

‘Getting a second opinion!’

(YEP, HE HAD THAT COMING, TOO!)

Marriage (Part IV)

A man has six children and is very proud of his achievement.

He is so proud of himself, that he starts calling his
wife,’ Mother of Six’ in spite of her objections.

One night, they go to a party.
The man decides that it IS time to go home and
wants to find out if his wife is ready to leave as well.
He shouts at the top of his voice, ‘Shall we go home Mother of Six?’

His wife, irritated by her husband’s lack of discretion,
shouts right back, ‘Any time you’re ready, Father of Four.’

(RIGHT ON, LADY!)

THE SILENT TREATMENT

A man and his wife were having some problems at home
and were giving each other the silent treatment.

Suddenly the man realized that the next day he would need his wife
to wake him at 5:00 AM for an early morning business flight.

Not wanting to be the first to break the silence (and LOSE), he wrote on a piece
of paper,’Please wake me at 5:00 AM.’ He left it where he knew she would find it.

The next morning the man woke up, only to discover it
was 9:00 AM and he had missed his flight.

Furious, he was about to go to see why his wife hadn’t wakened him when he
noticed a piece of paper by the bed. The paper said, ‘It is 5:00 AM. Wake up.’

Men are not equipped for these kinds of contests.

God may have created man before woman, but there
is always a rough draft before the masterpiece.

Am I right or is he………?

My family, hate my fiance, basically because he’s Latino and I’m white, they met him twice, once before and once after the engagement. And both times they were rude and racist toward him. They have told me they will not help with nor attend our wedding. But when I was writing the invitation list, my fiance has insisted I send my family invitations. My sister has already told me not to send anyone in the immediate family invites, because none of them are going to come. But he says I must still send them, even if they don’t come. I am enraged at the way they have treated him since the first day they met him, but he’s not even angry. And I’m annoyed at him for not being angry at them!
I don’t see the sense in paying for invitations I know they will throw away, we are paying for the wedding ourselves and I don’t want to waste money. Am I right? And why isn’t he more angry about it all?

What to wear to a wedding thats cute!?

I hate going to weddings because I never know what to wear! I’m about 5’11, 150 pounds, and wear about a size 8. I have no idea what to wear to this wedding the second weekend in September. Any ideas would be good. Please feel free to post links. I will give best answer to anyone that will help me find something. I prefer no strapless because I have like an A cup and can’t hold it up. haha. I hate open toed shoes…so I will most likely wear my black babydoll shoes…or buy new ones…so let me know what you find. You can make a whole outfit if you want…I want to be cost effficient but I dont have a exact limit as to what I will spend.

How much does it cost to have a wedding at the Rose Test Garden?

I am wondering what the cost is to have a wedding at the Rose Test Gardens in Portland Oregon. The website does not have the cost but it says that they hold weddings there. Has anyone had their ceremony there or know of the price? Thank you!

Instead of a reply date I want to leave my number… how can I word that?

Because the wedding is the end of this month I don’t think I have enough to wait for people to send a RSVP. So I would like to just leave my phone number so call me instead. I was having problems securing the church, and I didn’t want to send out invitations until I was certain. That’s why they are so late.
