I am currently planning a wedding for Aug 2010 and I will be having a Midsummer Nights Dream theme for the wedding. Does anyone have any ideas for centerpieces, bridal party gifts, quotes to put on my invites, etc.? I am not looking to go over the top with period themed dresses or anything and I’m not looking to break the bank as my fiance and I are young and newly living on our own. I could use all the help I can get…

I made this pumpkin coach for my october wedding, its kind of fairy like:
when I think of the fairy bowery from the play, I think of lots of vines and sparkle and twisty crazy sticks
I made crystal trees on the head table.for my wedding, (www.crystalier.com) . They;re expensive to buy but easy to make. Just get some sticks, spray paint them (I did silver) and hang crystal drops or strands off of them. Look up chandelier parts for the best prices. You can get some gauzy see-through white fabric and drape it all crazily over the gift table so it falls and puddles down to the floor. You can hang fairy lights, led branch lights or white x-mas lights on the buffet table, head table, the bar, etc. Over the cake table, you can put an archway and hang ivy, lights and little fairies from clear string. For the centerpieces, you can use floating candles with river stones in the bottom . For floral centerpieces, dont be afraid to use large blooms for inexpensive, high impact color and extra greenery for that enchanted forest look. I love these:
. If you’re really creative, you can cut up paper egg cartons to make mushroom caps. paint them like mushrooms and use a wine cork for the stem. Glue them to a moss-covered base and add some sticks and rocks for a fairy toadstool ring. These can make cheap centerpieces also.
for your invites, look into the art of Arthur Rackham. He did a lot of midsummer nights dream paintings, which are just stunning! You can use a quote from the play on the invite. For favors, look up Some of their stuff is over-priced but they have a lot of ideas that you can use to make your own favors.
Good luck, it sounds stunning!!! woops, hope the links work now…
A Midsummer Nights Dream sounds like it will be a beautiful theme for the wedding. I think that there are ways that you can put a modern touch on this theme – and remember that sometimes simple can be very elegant, so there is no need to go way overboard.
Do you have your dress yet? Do you have wedding colors picked out?
If you haven’t found your dress yet I would try to go for something with something long, chiffon, almost fairy-like, etc. You don’t have to go over the top with the dress, but certainly something that fits that theme would be nice. Maybe something like this:
Then have your bridesmaids wear something similar, but maybe a shorter version:
For your centerpieces you can do something that gives the tables a forest like atmosphere. You can use topiary or tree branches. You could also sprinkle some fairy dust or confetti on top of the tables and add some tea lights to give it a little glow.
Here are some centerpiece ideas you might like:
For your invitations it would be cute if you could find something with fairies or a forest type theme. Here are a few ideas for quotes to use:
“My heart
Is true as steel”
“Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind, and therefore is winged Cupid painted blind”.
You should check out the community at for ideas since the ladies there are doing similar themes and all of them are on tight budgets.
Here is a suggestion for bridal party gifts…. you can customize or design a piece that will suit your bridesmaids.
